* SupportSoft supports Belgacom IPTV foray
Belgacom SA, Belgium’s largest telecom company, is using self-installation software from SupportSoft Inc. for a new IP-based video service.
Belgacom is using SupportSoft’s “SmartAccess” platform to enable its high-speed subs to self-install the IP-based “Belgacom TV” service. The company presently has more than 800,000 broadband customers.
SupportSoft’s system is designed to verify customer “system characteristics,” including firmware versions, modem and set-top box types. In turn, the platform will configure the customer’s PC and wireless gateway.
* JDSU puts triple play to the test
JDSU has launched a new module for the HST-3000 handheld services tester to help field techs who install and maintain PON-based fiber-to-the-X networks.
The module simultaneously measures the optical power of the two downstream signals (1490 nm and 1550 nm) and the upstream signal (1310 nm).
JDSU will formally introduce the module at the OFC/NFOEC show, which runs March 5-10 in Anaheim, Calif.
