• Qwest Wireless migrating subs to Verizon
By Brian Santo

In accordance with a plan announced months ago, Qwest Communications said Qwest Wireless customers are now eligible to switch their wireless service to Verizon Wireless through Qwest.

Qwest Wireless customers who sign up for Verizon Wireless service through Qwest will be eligible for exclusive offers from Verizon Wireless. And for a limited time, Qwest will waive the contract termination fees for existing Qwest Wireless customers who switch to Verizon Wireless service sold through Qwest.

Additionally, customers with bundled services from Qwest may choose to have their Verizon Wireless services appear on their Qwest bill when billing systems are fully integrated this fall.

• Convergys renews Comcast contract
By Traci Patterson

Convergys Corp. has inked a multi-year contract renewal with Comcast, and the company will continue to provide Comcast with contact center technical support services, order management, and customer care support via telephone, e-mail and Web channels.

The new agreement also expands Convergys’ services support to include backoffice processing and access to new relationship management solutions by Convergys.

“This is a great opportunity to continue serving Comcast and its subscribers with a broad range of relationship management solutions,” said Jim Boyce, president of Convergys, North America. “No other company can offer the same breadth of relationship management services, solutions and levels of expertise that Convergys can to help companies deliver a superior customer service experience supported by live agent and self-care channels for anytime, anywhere access.”

• MRV Communications intros new media converter module
By Traci Patterson

MRV Communications has introduced a new Fiber Driver EM316EUSM media converter module, which delivers managed, optical Ethernet demarcation for bookend pair applications between the central office and a customer’s network.

The EM316EUSM offers either a fiber or copper port for 10/100/1000 Ethernet input and dual, redundant, SFP-based output ports to a fiber WAN. The module performs as an end-point or intermediate-point service demarcation in transparent LAN services (TLS), or in Ethernet signal repeating applications, as part of an end-to-end managed Metro Ethernet network, the company said.

“This module delivers the next generation in MRV’s overall strategy to add more intelligence and remote management to media converters, to ease the management challenge and reduce OpEx in dense carrier, MSO and enterprise applications,” said Noam Lotan, president and CEO of MRV Communications. “The EUSM makes the Fiber Driver chassis – which is already one of the most versatile optical multi-service platforms on the market – suitable for a new range of applications.”
