Following Comcast’s CES announcement about its push for smart home automation, the operator said it has added a host of new voice commands to its X1 voice remote that allow users to control devices integrated with Xfinity Home services.
With the new commands, customers can, for example, access cameras and control lights or thermostats.
“Starting today, customers can get specific about the camera they want to look at on the TV – just say ‘Xfinity Home, show me patio camera’,” Comcast’s Bryan Kissinger wrote in a blog post. “You can also use the X1 voice remote to make a certain room brighter, or dim the lights and choose a certain hue if you have the Philips Hue connected lighting system.”
Customers can also say ‘Xfinity Home, I’m cold’ to adjust the temperature a few degrees, or command the system to set the thermostat to a specific degree. Users can also ask questions, like if the security alarm is set, and the answer will appear on the TV screen.
Comcast said so far six of its connected home device partners have been integrated into the X1 voice commands database. These include: the Zen thermostat, Caseta/Lutron lights, GE in-wall and plug-in switches and dimmers, the Nest thermostat, Philips Hue lights, and the Sengled Element Touch lightbulb.
During CES earlier this month, Comcast announced it was delivering smart home automation services to more than 15 million Xfinity customers as it aims to integrate the capabilities across its Xfinity services product portfolio, including the X1 platform, xFi, Xfinity Home, and Xfinity Mobile.
Comcast said customers can expect additional voice commands to be rolled out in the coming months.
