Comcast recasts On Demand Online as Fancast Xfinity

December 3, 2009 By Mike Robuck

Comcast has officially changed the name of its online video service from On Demand Online to Fancast Xfinity.

A spokeswoman for Comcast confirmed the name change this morning and said On Demand Online was just a working moniker ever since the service launched in a trial in July. Broadcasting & Cable first reported the name change yesterday afternoon.

Fancast Xfinity is set for a nationwide beta launch sometime in the middle of this month. https://www.cedmagazine.com/News-Comcast-On-Demand-Online-live-next-month-111309.aspx

On Demand Online, which was Comcast’s version of Time Warner’s TV Everywhere, has been in beta testing with 5,000 users since July. Comcast currently has 24 programmers lined up to provide content to Fancast Xfinity via Comcast.net and Fancast. The service is free to Comcast’s subscribers.

The name change also provides some separation from a similar service from Rogers Communications, which was launched last week. The Canadian cable operator is calling its online video service Rogers On Demand Online.
