Comcast was in an elite group when it recently scored an engineering Emmy for its Xfinity TV iPad app.

Comcast’s Charlie Herrin, senior vice president of product development and technology, was on hand to pick up the Emmy engineering award.

“It was an honor to have been selected, and certainly humbling. … Lots of TV pioneers there: Lifetime achievement to the engineer that put graphics on top of football games; we sat next to the guy that produced the gyro-controlled camera crane for smooth, fast action filming (Ultimate Arm),” Herrin wrote on Comcast’s blog page. “Apple won an Emmy for the iPad itself, so to have received an award for an application on that device was especially rewarding.”

The Xfinity TV app also works with iPhone and Android devices.

More than 3.5 million users, according to Herrin, have downloaded the Xfinity TV app. During Comcast’s third-quarter earnings call last week, CEO Brian Roberts said there was 7,000 hours of content available on Comcast’s Xfinity TV app.
