Legends Energy Group and Cox Communications announced today that Cox has made Legends its official demand response partner for all Cox Virginia locations.
By joining the Legends Demand Response Program, Cox will work on reducing its carbon footprint in Virginia and receive a payment for reducing its electricity during times of stress on the electric grid. Cox and Legends have scheduled a signing ceremony for Saturday.
“I am so pleased that we are partnering with Legends on this important environmental initiative. This signing ceremony and the great work that will begin shortly thereafter is proof positive of our continued engaged in the conservation arena,” says Gary McCollum, Cox Virginia senior vice president and Cox general manager.
Legends uses former sports stars, including NFL Hall of Famer members Bruce Smith and Thurman Thomas, to help spread its message of energy conservation. The sports stars act as player affiliates to the group to market and bring recognition to industry-leading energy programs available to businesses across the country. Many businesses are unfamiliar with these big energy saving opportunities. Legends partners with national demand response leader Energy Curtailment Specialists, which administers the program.
Cox Communications has set a goal to reduce its company-wide carbon footprint by at least 20 percent before 2017.
Cox recently completed a commercial solar installation in Arizona, as well as a fuel cell project in San Diego.
