Following similar moves from DirecTV and U-verse, Dish Network will also greet the new year with price hikes.
As TVPredictions points out, message forum SatelliteGuys.us said Dish basic programming packages will rise in price $2 per month to $8 per month.
But according to the report, Dish will be lowering the cost for some premium channels. The satellite provider will lower the cost for HBO from $19 to $15, matching the price of HBO Now, the channel’s standalone streaming service.
Dish is also decreasing the cost of Cinemax by $4.
News of the rate hikes at Dish come after analyst Craig Moffett estimated that the company lost a staggering 178,000 satellite TV subscribers. On the other hand, Dish may have added as many as 155,000 subscribers to its Sling TV service.
But Sling TV still can’t generate the same kind of revenue as traditional TV packages so the price increases at Dish may be happening in order to help cover some of the video revenue that Dish is losing.
