After a 12-year career at Cox Communications, Randy Kinsey has joined Charter Communications as its vice president of IP engineering.
Kinsey joins former Cox executive Jay Rolls’ team at Charter. Rolls became Charter’s chief technology officer and senior vice president last year. Rolls replaced former Cox chief technology officer Chris Bowick at Charter, who was serving as interim CTO after former CTO Marwan Fawaz left Charter early last year.
Rolls confirmed Kinsey’s new position at Charter in an email to CED.
Kinsey was executive director of network engineering at Cox prior to leaving last month. He also served as executive director of network architecture for Cox, which included overseeing the design of IP network transport and security for Cox’s Internet, voice, wireless and video products.
Kinsey joined Cox in 1999 as manager of high-speed data for the company’s Las Vegas system.
Prior to joining Cox, he served in the United States Air Force for 14 years, supporting telecommunications for the F117 Stealth Fighter Team based in Nevada.
A graduate of Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb., Kinsey holds a bachelor’s degree in Internet software systems.
In December, Charter Communications announced that former Cablevision executive Tom Rutledge was its new president and CEO.
St. Louis-based Charter, which is the nation’s fourth-largest cable operator, will report its fourth-quarter and full-year operating results on Feb. 27, which will be Rutledge’s first earnings report as CEO.
