Harmonic Inc. has launched the GIGALight GTA 9100, a digital DWDM transport platform designed to transmit up to 40 wavelengths per fiber over long distances.
Optimized for video-over-IP, each wavelength can deliver up to 10 Gbps, the company said. The new platform is also fully integrated with the company’s IP-enabled Narrowcast Services Gateway edgeQAM gear.
“The GTA 9100 efficiently carries high volumes of IP narrowcast traffic over long distances, without the cost and complexity associated with Sonet/SDH, ATM and other similar networking technologies,” said Fernando Amendola, Harmonic’s transport solutions product marketing manager.
Separately, Harmonic introduced a commercial services solution that enables cable operators to tap their existing infrastructure to offer high-speed access services to a range of business, government and education customers.
Based on coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) technology, the platform can provide commercial-grade Internet access and virtual private network (VPN) services over the same fiber that operators use to offer broadcast and on-demand TV services. The solution is also capable of transporting up to 10 wavelengths, with each offering 100 Mbps of capacity, the company said.
