Brighter days (and nights) are ahead for the Hurston family with Lighting Science Group’s high-performance and ultra-efficient LED bulbs installed in their new Coco, Florida home. The Hurston family’s home was severely water damaged as a result of a burst pipe. The family’s Air Mobile Ministries brings clean water into countries following disasters. Donors fund the portable water purifiers they developed so they can donate them to anyone in need. Their machines have saved countless lives following the massive Haiti earthquake. Ironically, the one thing they provide to save lives is exactly what devastated their home.
Lighting Science Group, working with LifeStyle Homes, donated to ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition hundreds of ENERGY STAR approved DEFINITY LED bulbs that are approximately 80% more efficient than the equivalent light output halogen bulbs that they replace. The bulbs coupled with a solar hot water heater, solar panels on the roof, and a wind turbine will give the Hurston family an electric bill of zero.
“Lighting Science Group’s ultra-efficient LED products should brighten up the Hurston family’s lives for many years to come,” said Rich Weinberg, chairman and chief executive officer of Lighting Science Group. “This family has given so much to those in need and it’s great that we had the opportunity to help ABC, LifeStyle Homes and the community give back.”
“Lighting Science Group’s generous donation of ultra-efficient LED bulbs was a critical component for helping us build a net zero home for the Hurston family—the products were compatible with all the standard fixtures that were ordered and their output is simply brilliant,” said Jake Luhn, chief executive officer of LifeStyle Homes.
