If you’re using pepper spray, it’s likely you’re in some need of assistance. Now, the Plegium Smart Pepper Spray has been designed to immediately alert emergency contacts via a smartphone app when pepper spray has been released, according to New Atlas. The smart device not only informs contacts, but also triggers a siren and flashing lights that could potentially deter an attacker.
Plegium, creator of the device, said users upload emergency contacts into the smartphone app, which is connected to the device via Bluetooth. Then, when a person in potential danger fires the pepper spray, their phone automatically sends a text message to those contacts and provides the individual’s location via Google maps. An additional automated pre-recorded phone call also alerts the emergency contacts that the user could be in danger.
The 130-decibel siren and strobe of LEDs could also dissuade attackers to get any closer before actually having to use the pepper spray. But, if pepper spray is needed, the device has a 10 ft. range and enough capacity for 10 shots. The device also comes with a four-year battery life that doesn’t require any charging.
