Motorola debuts fixed WiMAX products

December 14, 2009 By Brian Santo

The hype is all about mobile WiMAX, but fixed, point-to-point WiMAX remains a useful option for high-speed wireless data transport in many circumstances. Motorola’s latest WiMAX products are aimed at secure connectivity for enterprise, government and residential access.

The company’s PMP 320 wireless broadband products operate in three different frequency ranges: 3.3 to 3.4 GHz, 3.4 to 3.6 GHz and 3.6 to 3.8 GHz. These chunks of spectrum are used for WiMAX, most extensively in a grab-bag of international markets outside of the U.S.

The new line supports standard WiMAX QoS profiles, is interoperable with WiMAX 802.16e CPE and uses standard AAA/RADIUS servers for authentication.

PMP 320 equipment can be co-located with existing Motorola PMP wireless broadband networks to offer service providers greater leverage from their existing access point locations, the company said.

Tony Cecchin, senior director for global product operations with Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions, said, “By bringing to market a cost-effective and highly interoperable solution, Motorola is helping to protect the existing infrastructure investments of network operators, while enabling them to extend service to new areas or offer new services to existing customers.”
