SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Eraser’s Model MMC200 Multi-Material Cutter offers users a range of industrial cutting capabilities. The MMC200 cuts round or flat material up to 3.94 inches wide and 5/8 inches thick (100 mm wide and 16 mm thick). With a maximum cutting force of 600 pounds, the unit can cut a range of materials, including copper wire and cable, silver solder, power cords, cellophane, fiberglass sleeving, latex, fabrics, belting, flat and ribbon cable, strapping, hosing, tubing and more. For some materials, the unit is capable of cutting multiple pieces of the same material in one cut, increasing efficiency by allowing higher production runs in less time. Users can program the microprocessor-controlled cutter to cut any length (in inches or millimeters), with a one percent or better tolerance reliant on material construction, according to Eraser. Programmable for up to 99 batches and 10 fixed feed rates, the MMC200 is rated to cut up to 7,592, 2-inch pieces per hour.

WiMAX starter kit
VICTORIA, B.C. – Vecima Networks has launched its VistaMAX Starter Kit, the latest addition to the company’s VistaMAX suite of WiMAX products. The new launch enables operators to assess the performance and capabilities of Vecima’s VistaMAX product line. The company said it supports operators through the installation, configuration and evaluation of the kit.

The kit operates in the 1.9 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands and is based on the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard. It’s an all-inclusive WiMAX solution and can be deployed by any operator, according to the company.
Included in the basic VistaMAX Starter Kit is one sector base station, five outdoor subscriber stations and three days of training for four people at Vecima’s Saskatoon facilities.

Extension shelf
RICHARDSON, Texas – Fujitsu Network Communications has enhanced its Flashwave 4100 Extension Shelf, including the addition of an OC-12 line interface unit, an integrated DS1 Network Interface Unit (NIU), DS3 Transmux capabilities and a universal 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet card.
The Flashwave 4100 Extension Shelf offers a 2RU (3.5-inch) modular solution that supports high concentrations of DS1, DS3 and Ethernet services. The shelf can operate as a standalone SONET system using dual OC-3 and now OC-12 connections in Unidirectional Path Switched Ring (UPSR), 1+1 or 0:2 configurations. The system can also work in conjunction with a Flashwave 4000 Multi-service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) or Flashwave 7000 Wavelength Divi-sion Multiplexing (WDM) node to improve cost-to-value efficiency through multiplexing of up to 168 DS1 and 12 DS3 ports into optical signals.
The new OC-12 line interface unit offers non-blocking OC-12 service to every slot in the chassis. When fiber facilities are at a premium, optional coarse wavelength division multiplexing interfaces allow multiple SONET networks to share a single pair of fibers.

Channel checker
MILPITAS, Calif. – JDSU has introduced what it claims is the industry’s smallest and lightest channel checker for DWDM networks, the OCC-56 Smart Optical Channel Checker. The channel checker is a selective power meter for DWDM applications that provides an alternative to optical spectrum analyzers (OSAs).
The OCC-56 is compatible with the JDSU TLS-55, a lightweight tunable laser source designed for channel routing applications, such as wavelength tracking, in ROADM networks.
Additional features for the OCC-56 include support for 50 GHz, 100 GHz or 200 GHz channel spacing (according to ITU-T), unlimited result storage capacity (on an external thumb drive), a tabular display, and extended battery lifetime.
