The Pennsylvania state government will not get to legislation providing for statewide video franchising this year.
Co-sponsors of Senate Bill 1247 and House Bill 2880 decided there was not enough time left in the current legislative session to get to the bills, especially in light of opposition.
“Despite substantial progress made in resolving numerous local concerns, however, the parties were unable to come to final terms in time for legislation to pass this session,” said William B. Petersen, president of Verizon Pennsylvania.
“Verizon will continue to support efforts to accelerate competition for cable services in Pennsylvania,” he added. “Meanwhile, we will continue to obtain the necessary local franchises to bring cable choice to Pennsylvanians.”
