At Italy’s Salone del Mobile furniture and lifestyle exhibition, Panasonic unveiled a transparent OLED concept display, which was part of an installation by Swiss furniture brand Vitra.
If you walk by the structure, it resembles an ordinary glass cabinet with a wooden frame. But once the device is powered on, the glass reveals its true form—an OLED display.
The concept stems from a series of workshops hosted by Panasonic and Vitra, which joined Panasonic’s technological skills with Vitra’s design prowess. The workshops yielded a number of ideas to seamlessly weave devices within our home decor.
The transparent OLED display concept was designed by Scandinavian-based designer Daniel Rybakken and Panasonic Design Kyoto. The wooden frame houses the tech components, including the lighting elements, and serves as the device’s stand. In addition to wood, metal and glass were also used as materials.
Still in its concept phase, Panasonic is currently sifting through and analyzing feedback.
