The second public mobile WiMAX Forum PlugFest is now in full swing. This event, another in a series of Plugfests, is an interoperability showcase for the mobile WiMAX standard, which has yet to be officially ratified.

Concurrent with the event, Navini announced that EMAX in Lima, Peru, is using its pre-mobile WiMAX products.

This Plugfest anticipates the first certification wave of mobile WiMAX products, which is scheduled to begin in mid-2007. The WiMAX Forum expects market availability of WiMAX Forum Certified mobile products beginning in late 2007. Systems in this cert wave will be based on the 2.3 GHz profile.

The current mobile WiMAX Forum Plugfest, sponsored by the WiMAX Forum and hosted by AT4 wireless Labs in Malaga, Spain, concludes on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Participants in this Plugfest include Accton Technology Corp., Adaptix, Airspan Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, Alvarion, Aperto Networks, Beceem, GCT Semiconductor Inc., Huawei Technologies, Intel Corp., LG Electronics, Motorola, Navini, Nokia, PicoChip, POSDATA, Redline Communications, Redpine Signals, Runcom Technologies Ltd., Samsung, SEQUANS Communications, SOMA Networks, Telsima, Wavesat Wireless Inc., and ZTE Corp. In addition to these suppliers, 10 test equipment vendors supported the event, including Aeroflex, AT4 wireless, Agilent, Anritsu Limited, Azimuth Systems, Anite Telecoms Ltd., Innowireless, Sanjole, Rohde & Schwarz, and Tektronix.
