NCTA President and CEO Michael Powell has signed on to speak at The Cable Center’s second-annual Academic and Cable Telecommunications (ACT) Forum.
The ACT Forum will take place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center May 20-21, prior to The Cable Show 2012.
Powell, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, will engage in a dialogue with Michael Wirth, professor and Dean of the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, on May 20. The event will also feature conversations with Michael Collette, founder and general manager of MediaTech Strategies; Ralph Brown, chief technology officer at CableLabs; David Jacobs, chief technology officer at Amdocs; and Laura Martin, investment analyst at Needham & Co. And the event will have panel discussions regarding research insights and practices and cable programming business strategies in a multi-screen environment.
The current list of speakers and panelists includes:
- Bob Walker, executive vice president and general manager of networks and content at The Weather Channel
- Kenetta Bailey, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at TV One
- Daniel Brenner, partner at Hogan Lovells
- Liz Davidoff, director of Americas home marketing at Motorola Mobility
- Bruce Leichtman, founder and principal at Leichtman Research Group
- Fernando LaGuarda, vice president of external affairs and policy counselor at Time Warner Cable
- Howard Horowitz, president of Horowitz Associates
- Scott Wallsten, vice president for research and senior fellow at Technology Policy Institute
- Suzanne Sell, vice president of research at Starz Entertainment.
The ACT Forum also gives academics a platform to share original research, conceptual papers and case studies related to cable and telecommunications by way of a poster session. Attendance for this day-and-a-half, closed-door conference is open to qualified academics and doctoral candidates.
