The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced the headliners for its Wireless and DOCSIS 3.1 Pre-Conference Symposium that takes place the day before Cable-Tec Expo officially kicks off.
Comcast’s Jorge Salinger, Cisco’s John Chapman, and CableLabs’ Belal Hamzeh, Mark Poletti, and Vivek Ganti lead a group of seven presenters that will provide a comprehensive overview of the two services and their roles in the cable industry.
The SCTE and CableLabs announced last month that they were teaming up on the Wi-Fi and DOCSIS 3.1 symposium in order to provide the current status of the two technologies and their impact on cable operators’ services.
The symposium will also tackle the technical requirements and engineering techniques that are needed to ensure seamless, successful deployments of DOCSIS 3.1 and wireless technologies. The symposium will feature four sessions each on wireless and DOCSIS 3.1.
The current schedule of sessions includes:
9:15 a.m.—Carrier Grade Wi-Fi; Mark Poletti, lead wireless architect, CableLabs
9:45 a.m.—Wi-Fi Analytics, Cloud and Radio Resource Management; Scott Helms, vice president of technology, ZCorum
10:45 a.m.—Community Wi-Fi, Vivek Ganti, system engineer, CableLabs
11:30 a.m.—Wi-Fi Antenna Design and Surveying; Perry Correll, principal technologist, Xirrus, Inc.
1 p.m.—DOCSIS 3.1: Current Status and Schedule; Jorge Salinger, vice president, access architecture, Comcast and Belal Hamzeh, director and principal architect, CableLabs
1:30 p.m.—DOCSIS 3.1: Bandwidth Opportunities; Belal Hamzeh, director and principal architect, CableLabs
2:30 p.m.—DOCSIS 3.1 Profiles – Customizing Bandwidth; John Chapman, CTO of cable access business unit and Cisco Fellow, Cisco Systems, Inc.

SCTE chairs for the wireless and DOCSIS 3.1 programs, respectively, are Steve Harris, senior director, advanced network technologies, and Marty Davidson, vice president, engineering and network operations.
The symposium takes place Sept. 21 in Denver followed by Expo Sept. 22-25.
