SeaChange CTO Steve Davi has jumped ship for Synacor, where he will serve as senior vice president of software engineering.
The move was apparently precipitated by SeaChange’s decision to eliminate the position of a corporate CTO. A SeaChange spokesman said, via email: “SeaChange senior management enacted a strategy last quarter to eliminate the position of a dedicated CTO and have our three business unit (platform, in-home and advertising) heads function as the CTO of their respective business. Having already vetted several excellent candidates from the video industry, the company fully anticipates announcing an appointment of a general manager for platform technologies shortly.”
The SeaChange spokesman also said, “SeaChange has a remarkable team running its global video platform business, with our chief architect Sam Ganesan presently in charge.”
Synacor expects that Davi’s expertise with cloud software engineering, digital media, HTML5, over-the-top, mobile and advertising monetization models will be a good fit for its own TV Everywhere solutions and cloud-based services.
Davi spent 15 years with SeaChange, most recently as chief technology officer. Prior to his career at SeaChange, Davi worked at Banyan Systems and Data General in software engineering leadership and contributor roles.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Synacor’s world-class team of engineers, developers and product managers during this breakthrough era in multi-device engagement,” said Davi. “Giving pay-TV subscribers what they want results in more monetization opportunities for both Synacor and our customers. Look for our software strategy to allow us to accelerate and continue to lead in identity management, cloud services, TV Everywhere and digital advertising.”
