The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a digital mammography system developed by Swedish IT and medical technology firm Sectra Imtec AB, which has its U.S. operations based in Shelton, Conn.
The digital system, called the Sectra MicroDose Mammography, is intended to reduce the level of radiation exposure to women receiving mammograms. It has won regulatory approval and is operating in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and more recently in Canada and Russia.
