Shaw Business, the commercial services arm of Shaw Communications, has inked an agreement to provide Wi-Fi, Internet and networking services to BC Biomedical Laboratories.
As part of the multi-year deal, Shaw will deploy its Wi-Fi services for BC Biomedical in 45 of its patient medical centers that are located throughout the lower mainland of British Columbia. With the Wi-Fi service, patients will be able to surf the Internet, check emails and use their mobile devices in BC Biomedical’s waiting rooms.
Shaw Business will also deploy a corporate wide area network (WAN) to help BC Biomedical improve its productivity when sending medical images and files. The corporate WAN service is provisioned by Shaw’s Ethernet over DOCSIS technology.
Shaw said that services for this large-scale offering are currently being implemented, and the first phase is slated to be finished by the end of next month.
“Working with one of the largest providers of medical services in the province shows the capability of Shaw Business to meet our customers’ needs, regardless of size or industry,” said Shaw Communications President Peter Bissonnette. “We’re excited for patients to experience the power of the Shaw network firsthand with our Wi-Fi product when visiting BC Biomedical’s locations.”
Headquartered in Surrey, BC Biomedical employs more than 700 people and provides services to 8,000 patients per day. The laboratory provides hundreds of different medical diagnosis services in microbiology, hematology, cardiac and chemistry.
Late last year, Shaw announced that it was conducting Wi-Fi trials in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton ahead of a wider rollout this year. A spokeswoman for Shaw said this morning that the trials have been opened up to existing customers and that Shaw is continuing to build out its network.
