R will standardize on a number of new software systems from Jungo that will control a wide swath of the Spanish cable operator’s operations. Jungo is owned by NDS.
First, R will deploy Jungo’s Open RG middleware system in both its cable DOCSIS 3.0 and DSL gateways, with the aim of providing a consistent user experience across both delivery systems.
R will also use JRMS, Jungo’s remote management system, which includes a comprehensive set of back office tools that help manage gateways, associated broadband services and network devices. The JRMS system enables the remote control and configuration of deployed gateways to provide quick and effective online support, troubleshooting and management of customer accounts.
R also plans to deploy Jungo’s SCR (Support Cost Reduction) solution, which was built to reduce the frequency and length of customer support calls.
Jungo will also supply its NationZone software, which detects unused bandwidth in home gateways across its installed base and rededicates it to create a secure, unified Wi-Fi hotspot network, which Jungo said it can do without degrading the user experience in the home. The NationZone wireless access network can be activated by R through a simple remote upgrade procedure, leveraging existing CPE.
“When we made the decision to provide our customers with next-generation gateways, we realized that choosing one robust, hardware-agnostic middleware solution that supports all gateways, regardless of CPE hardware, would be a smart move. Jungo’s solution does just that and will enable us to offer new services quickly and easily, while keeping development and ongoing support costs to a minimum,” said Arturo Dopico, CEO of R.
