Suddenlink Communications recently completed a fiber-optic network installation in Mississippi that cost more than $500,000.
Suddenlink added the fiber in the Greenville and Greenwood, Miss. areas, which it purchased from Windjammer Communications last year.
Suddenlink said the new network connects with its national backbone, and that it would make its services in Mississippi more reliable and less dependent on other carriers.
Suddenlink, the nation’s seventh-largest cable operator, also said the new network would allow it to introduce better TV and data services in the area.
Suddenlink has added DOCSIS 3.0 data tiers in other areas of its footprint though its “Project Imagine” initiative, which calls for approximately $350 million of capital investments nationwide through 2012, above and beyond the company’s traditional capital spending levels. In addition to the DOCSIS 3.0 tiers, Project Imagine’s roadmap also includes more HD choices, expanded digital phone service and more VOD offerings.
The new fiber installation also allows Suddenlink to re-route services in the event of damaged lines, or if other carriers’ equipment fails, which helps prevent network outages.
