Even as it rolls out fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), SureWest Communications is making sure it serves its traditional phone customers by increasing its DSL service speeds by bonding pairs of access lines.
Eligible DSL subscribers with 6 Mbps service will have their transmission rates boosted to 10 Mbps; those on the lower tier will go from 3 Mbps to 6 Mbps. Upload speeds will increase from 768 kbps to 1 Mbps.
SureWest’s traditional copper network in the Sacramento, Calif., region reached 74,500 homes in the company’s incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) territory as of June 30.
SureWest Senior Vice President and CTO Bill DeMuth said, “Bonded DSL allows us to provide faster Internet speeds deeper into our copper network, and now over 50 percent of potential DSL subscribers have access to 10 Mbps.”
The promotional rates for new subscribers for the 6 Mbps tier are $27.99 per month for one year, and for the 10 Mbps tier, $31.99 per month for one year.
