Time Warner Cable has ramped up the data speeds for residential subscribers across Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and it added DOCSIS 3.0-based tiers.
The top downstream speed for Turbo Internet increased from 15 Mbps to 20 Mbps and from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps on the upstream. Standard Internet downstream speeds increased from 8 Mbps to 10 Mbps, while upstream speeds doubled from 512 kbps to 1 Mbps. Downstream speeds for Basic Internet doubled from 1.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps and from 256 kbps to 1 Mbps upstream.
The faster speeds went into effect automatically yesterday for all residential Time Warner Cable Internet customers, with no change in the current price of the service.
“With Time Warner Cable’s faster Internet speeds, customers can enjoy everything they love about the Internet better – streaming video, downloading digital music, watching live TV with the TWC TV iPad app, uploading photos and everyday Web browsing,” said Paul Schonewolf, Time Warner Cable’s area vice president for operations for New England. “We continue to invest in our network to boost speeds and deliver more value for our customers.”
Time Warner Cable also launched its DOCSIS 3.0 wideband tiers for residential subscribers across the same areas of New England. Extreme Internet with downstream speeds of up to 30 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream is now available, as is the company’s Ultimate Internet, with downstream speeds up to 50 Mbps and 5 Mbps upstream.
Time Warner Cable said it would start offering business-class DOCSIS 3.0 tiers early next month.
Time Warner Cable is one of the few cable operators that breaks out its DOCSIS 3.0 subscribers from the rest of its data customers. In the most recent fourth quarter, the nation’s second-largest cable operator added a record number of DOCSIS 3.0 subscribers with 54,000. Time Warner Cable also said in its fourth-quarter earnings call that DOCSIS 3.O was available in 76 percent of its footprint.
Time Warner Cable reports its first quarter earnings on Thursday.
