Time Warner Cable has ramped up the upstream and downstream speeds of several of its data tiers in its Carolinas system, as well as added more HD channels to its lineup.
Making the point that the speed upgrades were faster than similar-priced DSL offerings, Time Warner Cable increased the downstream speed of its Broadband Turbo tier from 15 Mbps to 20 Mbps, while the upstream went from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps.
“Today’s broadband customers demand faster speeds for their multi-device, online lifestyles,” said Darrel Hegar, regional vice president of operations at Time Warner Cable Carolinas. “Time Warner Cable’s faster speeds mean an even better Internet experience for Turbo customers, whether you’re downloading music to your laptop, watching live TV with the TWC TV app for the Apple iPad or streaming video to your Wi-Fi-connected smartphone.
“Plus, our faster speeds are arriving just in time for customers to connect all those tablets, smartphones and other devices they receive as gifts this holiday season.”
Speeds also increased for Time Warner Cable Internet customers with Lite Internet (from 768 kbps to 1 Mbps downstream and 128 kbps to 1 Mbps upstream) and Basic Internet (from 1.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps downstream and 256 kbps to 1 Mbps upstream).
The faster speed upgrades went into effect automatically with no additional charges.
Earlier in the week, Time Warner Cable launched four new HD channels in the Carolinas: Ovation HD, Style HD, Fox Soccer Channel HD and Sundance HD.
In the past year, Time Warner Cable has added more than 60 HD channels in North and South Carolina, bringing its total to nearly 170.
Time Warner Cable’s East Region provides video, Internet and telephone services to more than 5.9 million residential and business customers. Its 17,000 local employees serve customers in more than 1,300 communities across nine states: Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
