Time Warner Cable recently increased the speeds of some of its tiers at no additional cost in its New York metropolitan footprint.
Time Warner Cable ramped up the speed of its Broadband Turbo service from 15 Mbps on the downstream to 20 Mbps, while the upstream speed was increased from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps. Time Warner Cable customers who subscribe to the Broadband Standard tier had their upstream speeds doubled from 512 kbps to 1 Mbps, while the downstream speed remained at 10 Mbps.
“Time Warner Cable’s faster Internet speeds will provide customers with a richer experience in everything from streaming movies, watching live TV with the TWC TV iPad app, uploading photos and everyday Web browsing,” said John Quigley, Time Warner Cable’s regional vice president of operations for New York City. “We’re investing in our network to increase Internet speeds and are pleased to bring this added value to our customers.
“New Yorkers are demanding faster Internet speeds that DSL simply cannot provide. Our Internet speeds, combined with today’s upgrades, are why more people are selecting us as their online service provider.”
Time Warner Cable said speeds were also increased for customers with the Lite Internet tier (from 768 kbps to 1 Mbps downstream and 128 kbps to 1 Mbps upstream) and Basic Internet tier (from 1.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps downstream and 256 kbps to 1 Mbps upstream).
The speed increases were recently implemented in New York City, New Jersey and the Hudson Valley.
For even faster speeds, Time Warner Cable’s Extreme service provides downstream speeds of up to 30 Mbps, while its DOCSIS 3.0-based wideband tier clocks in with speeds of up to 50 Mbps.
Time Warner competes with, among others, Verizon in its New York metropolitan footprint. Verizon’s fastest data tiers are 50/25 and 150/35, although the latter isn’t available everywhere.
Time Warner Cable’s New York City footprint serves more than 1.3 million customers in four New York City boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and western Brooklyn), Mt. Vernon, Hudson Valley (Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties and parts of Dutchess, Greene and Delaware counties), and Bergen and Hudson counties in New Jersey.
