TiVo chalks up a Tier 2 win with Midcontinent

October 11, 2012 By Mike Robuck

TiVo has scored another customer win with a Tier 2 cable operator, with Midcontinent Communications coming on board today.

Midcontinent will use TiVo’s whole-home DVR and multi-screen suite of products across its footprint in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota, but the initial rollout is slated for the South Dakota subscribers.

“We are excited to work with TiVo to deliver the next evolution of our video product to our subscribers quickly and cost-effectively,” said Jon Pederson, Midcontinent’s vice president of technology. “For years, TiVo has been viewed as the gold standard of television user experiences, so we look forward to partnering with them to deliver their latest generation of products for our subscribers. Midcontinent prides itself on continuing to evolve our product offerings to deliver the high-quality services that consumers demand. As television viewing behaviors evolve to include more sources of content and new consumption devices, we can’t think of a better partner than TiVo to help us continue to delight consumers throughout the upper Midwest.”

Midcontinent, which serves 295,000 business and residential customers, will use TiVo’s software on all of its new DVR devices, as well as in multi-tuner gateways, IP set-top boxes and mobile platforms. Once TiVo is fully launched, Midcontinent customers will be able access video content from integrated video-on-demand, linear television and the Internet.

Financial terms of the deal between Midcontinent and TiVo weren’t available.

Earlier this week, Suddenlink Communications, which is a long-time partner of TiVo’s, became the first cable operator to launch TiVo Stream.

Other cable operator customers for TiVo include RCN, Charter Communications, and – to a lesser extent – Cox Communications and Comcast.
