Verizon said earlier this week that its fiber optic FiOS video service is now available in Puget Sound, Wash.
The service – which is available to 80,000 households – launched with 98 HD channels, which Verizon claimed was more than Comcast is offering in the same area.
Like it has done in other areas recently, Verizon announced that subscribers who sign up for its video service in Puget Sound between today and Oct. 4 are eligible for a year’s free use of either an HD DVR or an HD home media DVR.
To further lure customers away from cable and satellite providers, Verizon is also offering new FiOS TV customers, or existing customers who upgrade to a bundled package, one free month of HBO and Cinemax, which includes more than 25 premium channels and access to hundreds of additional titles on VOD. Verizon said new customers who take advantage of this offer could save between $200 and $260.
Over the past several months, Verizon said it has secured local franchise agreements in Washington with 13 local city and county councils: Bothell, Brier, Edmonds, Everett, Kenmore, Lynnwood, Marysville, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Redmond, Woodinville, Woodway and Snohomish County.
