D-Link is hitting the market with a new box pointedly called MovieNite, aimed at subscribers to over-the-top (OTT) video services.
That includes services such as Netflix, YouTube, Pandora and Picasa, but the box is currently available only at Wal-Mart, which owns the Vudu video service that will, of course, also be available through the box. The retail price is $59.99.
The streaming media player supports 1080p HD movies and TV shows. It will also be able to connect to mydlink-enabled network cameras to display camera video directly on TV screens.
The MovieNite box features a three-step setup, wireless and Ethernet connectivity, HDMI output, and composite audio/video connections “to turn any analog TV into a smart TV,” D-Link said.
D-Link noted that it has available a mydlink app which enables users to monitor their homes through a mydlink-based camera. Other apps include the Picasa@app for picture sharing and a free MovieNite remote app for iPhone and Android, allowing consumers to control MovieNite using the smartphone remote app.
