MathWorks is organizing a new robotics competition in 2016, with the finals held during the Innorobo tradeshow in Paris, May 24 – 26.
The objective of the Mission on Mars Robot Challenge is not to build a robot; the rover robot, 3-D printed and made with Arduino and Raspberry Pi cards, will be provided by MathWorks. The competition’s objective is to optimize the MATLAB and Simulink algorithms used by the rover to complete the mission as fast as possible. Each team will have to improve the simulation model used by the rover for a chance to win.
After a contestant registers, MathWorks will send an email of a simulation model of the robot’s behavior that they will need to optimize. The objective is to improve the simulation model in order to make the robot as efficient as possible. The most improved simulation models will be selected for the grand final in Paris at end of May, this time using real Rover robots provided to each finalist team.
Prior knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink is not required to participate in this challenge.
